JetBlue Vs Southwest

Wed May 21, 2003 2:39 am

How will JetBlue compete, or not comete, with Southwest?

Neeleman has said publicly that they don't want to compete with them, but how big can they become if they don't compete with them?

If JetBlue doesn't want to compete with Southwest than JetBlue will be forced to pick only the major airports for now on because Southwest has just about everything else.

There really is no comparison. Two entirely different airlines with totally opposite marketing concepts and services.

That IS JetBlue's gameplan. You won't be seeing B6 going to Lubbock, Midland, El Paso, or Tucson any time soon. B6 is sticking to a fairly successful strategy of long-distance flying, with some short hops from each of the two coastal hubs (JFK & LGB). Likewise, you won't be seeing WN flying LAX-NYC any time soon.

There are quite a few airports at which B6 can expand that Southwest currently does not fly to (B6 already flies to DEN & ATL, and other airports could include MSP, DFW, & ORD.)

I think it's a matter of time bfore they collide.

JetBlue is not going to be able to avoid significant competition with Southwest once they get to the 100-150 airframe point, and they have something like 225 airplanes on order.

This has been discussed to death in countless other topics since jetBlue was announced. Do some searching...
