How Many United 744's Left?

Thu May 22, 2003 7:48 am

I was on my way to work today (SFO) and noticed 8 UA 747-400's parked at Super Bay. On the G concourse, Uniteds international side, I saw 2 more. I dIdn't see if there were any at the MOC. So I was wondering, does anyone know how many are left? I was guesing 30! Thats something to see roughly 30-35% of 1 type for a airline at a city at one time.

UA currently has 27 744s in the "operating fleet" ; that means not stored in the desert. So seeing 10 at the same time in SFO is quite amazing. Think a few more will be in service with the new summer schedule.

A lot of 744s are used on Transpac routes so since UA has many Transpac flights from SFO, You will see a lot of them there. ORD has a few, same for LAX.

They have sold 7 to Thai, and 1 to Dubai Air Wing.

Hopefully they won't sell to many more 747's, and we will see all the remaining ones back in service very soon!

I think they agreed to sell the 744s to Thai and Dubai Air Wing but they haven't been delivered yet. UA still lists all 44 744s either in the "operative fleet" or "non-operative fleet".
