Air Berlin Registration Swap

Fri May 23, 2003 6:06 pm

I've just noticed that B737-700 D-ABAB of Air Berlin is carrying the registration a B737-400 (c/n 24769, now EC-HXT with Air Europa) used a few years ago.

Does anybody know how "easily" a reg. swap is authorised by the German Authorities or how long a reg. needs to be cancelled in the german register?

Thanks for all info!

Cheers

I thought the only 737-700's operated by Air Berlin are leased from Hamburg International and carry the registrations D-AHIA and D-AHIC???

I see from the arrivals/departures pages at Zurich this morning that D-ABAB has visited twice so far (and is listed as a -700), can you confirm these sightings or is it somebodies typo? (Uniques's pages are usually accurate in my experience). I didn't think the German authorities allowed re-issue of previously used reg's! Interesting. If this is infact D-AHIB, note that Hamburg International have already re-registered it in the past few years (from D-AWAH)

As far as I know Air Berlin has ordered two own B737-700s ! D-ABAB must be on of it.
There are many registrations which were previously used. I think of Lufthansa´s B737-430 which used older B727-230 registrations, same with some Airbusses I think.

You see, not a problem in Germany.

I didn't realise the 430's recycled the 727 reg's (should of since I use to see the 727's often enough). Thanks for the info. Any idea how long the Hamburg -700's will remain with Air Berlin?

I can definitely confirm that D-ABAB is a B737-700 as I've seen it with my own eyes and read off with binoculars (both reg. and aircraft type written on rear fuselage).

Thanks for all your replies! Cheers
