Swissair 747s

Sat May 24, 2003 2:51 am

Just wondering, how many 747s did they have & where'd they fly them to? Some flew long-haul as I've seen pics of them at HKG (Kai Tak). How long did they keep them for?

Someone care to fill me in on the details?

Thanks!

Don't know where they flew them to, but they had 5 747-300s, 3 of which were combis. In fact, Swissair was the launch customer for the 747-300.

The 743s were also operated to Boston, Atlanta, and Hong Kong at a minimum.

The 743's were used to JFK, BOM, HKG ATL, BOS, PHL, and ORD. The 747 fleet was retired in 2001, last flight was ATL - ZRH.

I miss them.... :-(

Cheers, Thomas

Hi,

I flew on one of the 747-300 in 95 into Boston. By that time the appeared pretty old fashioned. The funniest thing were the IKEA (the swedish furniture company) Ted folding chairs they had stored somewhere in the galley for the crew's rest. The Boston flight went on to IAD or PHL by that time.
During that holiday I also flew BDL-IAD on US Airways Express. On taht flight we were overtaken by the SR 747-300 coming from BOS. It was a nice view of that plane.

Regards

Oliver
