Clevelanders- Peter Max Was Here!

Sun May 25, 2003 5:25 am

Hey everyone. Just wanted to let you all know Continental's Peter Max 777 graced our fair airport with its presence yesterday. Unfortunatly, someone on board had a stroke which caused the airplane to be diverted. She was en-route IAH-LGW as flight 34 when the problem arose. Here's a picture I snapped as she landed and just uploaded to airliners.net. I hope it's accepted!  Big grin

Nice shot, but it looks like there's a lot of digital artifacting. I think you're compression level is far too high...

Neat, though! It's always great to see an unexpected bird landing at your local airport  Smile
Someday, we'll look back at this, laugh nervously, and then change the subject.

It is a great pic, but it could use some cropping on all 4 sides. The plane looks realitively small to the size of the picture.

I just flew home today from a week in CZM, would have loved to see this bird! Flew ATA so will file my FIRST trip report real soon. So I was a day late and a dollar short as mom would say.

Whats interesting is that there is so much talk about the CLE runway not being able to handle the heavies, and as the Peter Max is a 777 and was full, and managed to take off and land from CLE with enough fuel to do a transatlantic, then what's the problem ?

At times you get the 747's from the Middle East Countries who fly in to have Medical care at the Cleveland Clinic, and one Arab leader/King flys in to CLE and brings his staff on a separate 747's. I also use to work for a charter operator that routinely flew L1011's in and out of CLE.

Great job catching such a rarity in Cleveland, of all places! Sadly I was working at the time or I would of headed on over. I know exactly where you took the picture from and from what I have seen they haven't been chasing people away despite the "code orange" hogwash. Some past 777 visits I know of:

CLE-SEA-OGG/OGG-SEA-CLE DL (charter)
LHR-JFK diversion (weather)
IAH-CDG diversion (medical)
EWR-NRT diversion (medical)

I took the pic from an access road off of Brook Park. It was about 7 in the evening when she landed. Dumped fuel over the lake for about 20 mins then came in.

Something does look wierd about that. The 777 does look small compared to that ERJ that is obviously quite a ways behind it.

Does the Peter Max B777 tend to fly certain routes or does it vary? I'll be flying EWR-CDG in late June and wonder what my chances are of flying it. Is it truly a crap shoot?

Yes it is truly a crap shoot. All the B777's share the flights. That said, it is easy to see where the Peter Max is going from about 2-3 days before the day.

How would it be easy to tell 2-3 days before hand? By the location it is at? If so how can you find that info out? Follow the Continental schedule and see where it'll end up.

Thanks for the help

I was there when it landed... Spectacular. We could see the wings and engines when it was still three miles out. Unfortunately a security patrol came by before she took off again, and kicked us out of the spotting area.

Since I brought it up, I'll add this -- According to CHIA security, the two approach lighting turnoffs, including that little hill, will soon be gated "no trespassing" areas. We are welcome to spot at the intersection of Rocky River Drive (OH 237) and Brookpark Road. The security guards don't want us right under the approach path. And they *will* call the police.

It varies. I saw it on Tuesday at NRT - it has arrived from IAH and was departing for EWR.

Geez, the Rentacops.

I never listen to renta cops. They are minimum wage idiots without guns. I tell them to call the police when I spot.

One time (pre 9-11) a rentacop told me to leave the area where i was spotting and i paid him no mind. He was yelling at me from his rentacop car. He flagged down a passing cop and the cop chewed him out for wasting his time.

Unfortunately now, the cop would probably chew me out instead of the rentacop.
