why is a funnel cloud worthy of news here?

Tornados / funnel clouds occur in Illinois, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, etc... *ALL* the time...

(( just asking a question about airliners.net posting guidelines, as this has nothing to do with civil aviation and isn't newsworthy ))

Well, you sort of answered your question in your post. You named a bunch of areas where tornados are frequently found, and Ottawa is not one of them!
We NEVER get tornados up here, so if we were to get one, it would indeed be relevant for aviation and such, because it's not something people and airports are prepared for/accustomed to.

That being said, I do not understand any of the meteorological data above!
Next flight.... who knows.

Jean, those were just Meterological Reports and Specials issued for the YOW airport for pilots / dispatchers, etc. "FC" indicates funnel clouds. It's very rare to see them in the forecasts or actuals.

SegmentKing is obviously not concerned about funnel clouds (with possibilities leading up to tornadoes). Severe weather conditions are of safety hazards to aviation. If it's not newsworthy to you then don't reply. Your post was simply senseless.

I have to echo CX829's comments that posts like yours are nothing but inflammatory-and intended to do so. Moderating is best left for the moderators.

OK, climbing off my soapbox...

I'd just like to add...odd that the funnel cloud is moving northwest. Generally here in the States they move southeast-northwest, although there have been a few notable exceptions.

Funnel Cloud....

Mon May 26, 2003 4:05 pm

I can't imagine that a funnel cloud is that newsworthy in YOW. Tonadoes happen frequently in all parts of North America that is a) east of the Rockies and b) north of the Gulf of Mexico. This is due to a) warm Gulf air from the south b) cold canadian air from the north c) jet stream windshear d) dry lines.
Firings, if well done, are good for employee morale.

still, nothing to do with the guidelines of Civil Aviation.

And no, funnel clouds don't bother me. they're beautiful to watch, and can become deadly, but not newsworthy per the posting guidelines for this forum.

When they're in METARs, they do.

METARs are part of Civil Aviation.

Arguments?

I guess you missed that line about leaving the moderating to the moderators.

Does the tornado first have to make a plane crash to make it have anything to do with civil aviation.

If you ask pilots, I think that they would agree that weather plays a pretty large role in aviation. (Would you like to fly through a tornado in a C182???)

Yeah, YOW isn't the only place to have a tornado warning!

Never EVER seen a Tornado in Greece, but I guess it can happen with the warm air from Africa and the cold air from Siberia and the Alps.

So now, because of your thinking, everytime a 13 year old kid sees a funnel cloud, he can post it here??????????

I don't think so.

So anytime a tropical storm comes to Florida, it's ok for me to post it? Anytime i see a nimbostratus cloud, I can post it here???? Maybe even take a picture of it?

some of you REALLY need to take some ritalin... some posts are expected from some users who really don't have a clue... but this one.............

Don't you understand? Its on a METAR, which it may have an effect on operations at YOW, that is why it is in the Civil Aviation forum.

If there WAS a non-aviation forum still, it MAY have been moved there, but there isn't, is there?

Why do you have to get so argumentitive all the time, challenging peoples decisions and flaming them? You know why the non-aviation forum was closed, don't you...

Take it easy, SegmentKing. Like EGGD said, it made the METAR, and as previously stated, twisters (or funnel clouds) aren't common at YOW. If we had a funnel cloud at SNA that affected flight ops, I'd expect to see it on this board too.

If you're pissed off about something, go take it out on your pillow or something.
