Delta 764's IFE

Wed May 28, 2003 8:55 pm

Hi. I'm flying on a Delta flight this Saturday from MCO-ATL on a 767-400 and I wasn't sure if Delta's 764s had PTVs in every seat or not. I searched for cabin pictures of this plane but couldn't find anything that showed tvs. I'm really curious. I hope they do. Thanks for any info!

"Houston, that would be a negative on the PTVs... repeat NEGATIVE on the PTVs."

DL 767-400ERs have PTVs only in First Class. There are none in the Coach section.

Oh well...... then explain this picture:

The caption reads : This is the first 767-400 featuring the new coach interior, which has a more narrow seat back and they have moved the remote for the TVs that will be installed in the coming months.

Thats what made me think there were PTVs on the 764s.

I'll tell you about flying MCO-ATL on a 764, I did it last year both ways.

There is a cieling mounted TV I think every 5-8 rows. They were playing this silly wannabe "Jackass" type video, but not offensive, just goofy people doing stunts like that. They showed the same video on my 767-200 from DTW-ATL. The headsets and equipment are much more modern than the 200 was. Instead of the controls being stuck to the armrest like the 200, they come out of the armrest and its like a remote. There are the radio stations too. At the time I was flying, they had a variety of music stations although heavy metal for me. For rock stations going down they had Seattle music (Sound Garden, Alice In Chains etc and coming back up British 70s- 80s punk (The Clash, Sex Pistols)

I cannot explain the caption other than to say that it is wrong. As far as I am aware, there was only a fleeting intention to install PTVs in the coach section of the 764ERs.

They do not have them and, given the routes on which they operate, I find it hard to believe that they will be installing them anytime soon.

Then again, DL_Mech is probably the right person to ask.

Not going to happen. If anything, the PTV's would go on their Atlantic 763ER fleet, and there are no plans for that, so I would be shocked if Delta was invest the huge amounts of money required to serve primarily low-yield, leisure routes, especially with their current financial position.

Continental's 767-400ER's all have PTV's as they primarily serve long-haul transatlantic, South American, and Hawaii routes.

This past December I was on a DL 764, TPA-ATL. There were drop-down TVs in coach about every five rows but not PTVs.

There *was* inflight entertainment -- a little tape of short programs: pranks played by a comedy troupe out of Quebec; a travel commercial for one of Skyteam's destinations (can't remember, it might have been in Italy); and a cooking show. Great entertainment for a 1.5 hour flight. But my favorite was the display of flight data (ground speed, altitude, heading, etc.)

Maybe that was the show I was talking about that sort of reminded me of Jackass. Because I remember the cooking show too. I was listening to the music at the time though.

Not exactly the best show to come out of Canada.....

Anyway, all of the 764's are prewired for PTV's, but all of that has been put on hold. I will refer you to Mikeymike for more info.........
This plane is built to withstand anything... except a bad pilot.
