JFK Terminal 5 (TWA) Tear-Down?

Sat May 31, 2003 2:58 pm

On this evening local news in NY ("fox5") they had a segment
about national landmarks in danger, and they said that Terminal 5 is
slated to be partly demolished to make way for a new "building" (I guess they ment terminal").. as much as i know terminal 5 is protected - isn't it?

and secondly - did they actually film (i forgot the name of the movie,
the one with dicaprio and hanks) the movie in the terminal?

thanks... Danny..
cockpit? it's that little room in the front of the plane where the pilots seat.. but that's not important now

Old news, T-5's concourses were to be demolished as well as all of T-6 to make way for a new terminal that would house UAL, B6 and TWA.

This plan was canned after TWA went under and UAL went bankrupt, there are no plans to go foward with the new terminal.

So the report and FOX 5's report are dated by about 3-4 years.

Not quite right. The old TWA terminal (A), is closed. The gates/jetways have been removed. It closed in October 2000. Prior to 09/11/01, it was going to be turned into a conference center and the centerpiece of a new 25-40 gate terminal to be built around it, for United, JetBlue, some other Star Alliance air lines. 09/11 and the economy and industry downturn changed all of that. No plans are specifically in the works right now to build anything on its site.
