Saudi Arabian Retiring 747-100?

Sun Jun 01, 2003 10:27 pm

The type is not mentioned in SV's fleet, in their inflight magazine, all the aircraft they operate are in the past issues along with a Graphic illustration, so are they on the way out? there's news that SV are studying the 777-300ER probably to replace them.

That's a 747-100? It's got RB211s?

Its about time they were replaced. They must be at least 20 pushing up to 30 years old...

777236ER,

Saudia RB211 747's(non -300's),were delivered/certified as -168B's.

Since SV operates GE 777-200's,the GE powered 777-300ER would make a logical replacement.I would expect this to occur in the not too distant future, late 2003 or early 2004.

To add to Ba319-131's information, SV's 741's are not that old. They were delivered in the early 1980's.

These 747-168's were the last 741's built and delivered in 1981-82, not that old really for a 741.

QF's SP's were RR powered!

SV's 747SP are now with the VIP/Royal fleet, I think SV should also consider Airbus types like the A340-300/500 for the 747-100/300 replacement, A330-200 for the A300-600 replacement and the A320/319 for the 737-200 and MD-90 replacement makes more sense since their relations with USA are not so hot anymore.

SV going Airbus? The Saudi King`s knees are shaking because Bush is threatening the whole region. So it seems logical that 777s will replace the aging 741s once they´re due for retirement. And that´ll be in the tot too far future, although to my knowledge the 741s are mainly used for the workers shuttle flights to India where using the most modern aircraft is not that vital.
