Rear Windows In Airbus Widebodies Curve Upwards?

Mon Jun 02, 2003 5:34 pm

Why is this, on the A340, A330, A310 and A300 the windows in the back curve upward. Does the floor inside curve up as well? I've flown in an A340 and didn't notice it at all.

Setjet is absolutely correct. From the inside it is hardly felt at all except when you are pushing a trolley !!

As the floor and windows don't actually "curve" upward, it would probably be more correct to say that they incline upward from a breakpoint close to the rear of the wing. That tedious verbage aside, the Ilyushin Il-86 airliners are designed similarly. I can remember seeing scale models of these airliners thinking someone messed up on installing the decals before I saw the real thing(s)...jack

It's visible on the inside, too. On a Lufthansa A-340 recently, I could see a bit of an angle along the line of overhead bins.

Although it's not quite visible in that photo, it is noticeable on the outside and inside of the aircraft. You also notice it when walking back and forth in the cabin.
