Midwest Express 717 Over SoCal?

Tue Jun 03, 2003 12:28 am

Back on Friday, I was out at Lake Perris getting some sun and R+R. Lake Perris is located a few miles southeast of March ARB.

At approximately 11:20 AM, I saw what appeared to be a Midwest Express 717 fly overhead. It was in the middle of a turn/bank when I saw it, heading from the south to the west. I guestimated its AGL at about 4000-6000.

This is a bit low, even for planes heading for ONT, which, from Lake Perris is about 25 miles to the west northwest.

So does anyone know what was up with that plane?

Yeah, but that low....From LGB-which is about 80 miles from where I was at? Heading in the general direction of ONT or LAX.

where are you going with this? Are you asking if Midwest is flying the 717 on scheduled service to ONT or LAX?

I think he's asking WHY it was there, at that altitude.

I'm not leading up to anything. I simply saw something that I considered to be unusual and am asking about it. It very well might have been nothing more glamorous than a test flight. I don't know. That's why I'm asking.

Here in WA state Boeing uses Moses Lake (MWH) for instrument calibration flights, perhaps they are doing the same thing at an air field out towards March?

Midwest only flys MD-80s out to the west coast. They wouldn't charter 717s yet due to the fact that they have a limited supply and they want to utilize them as much as possible. It must've been a Boeing test flight.
