I am not sure about baseball, but they would use a decent sized plane.
Basketball probably would use the smallest since there are typically less than 15 players on the team and not a lot of equipment to carry since the ball is provided by the NBA and the baskets are at the court. You wouldnt need more than a 737
Hockey has 23 players, plus perhaps a couple of back ups. Three hockey bench coaches go along, along with a couple of trainers and video coaches and often a few members of the press for radio and TV
broadcasts back to the home town. There is a lot of equipment to carry- sticks, helmets, pads, goalie equipment. Detroit Redwings manage to fit everything on a DC-9-50, and the NY Rangers use a 737.
Football would use the most since they have a ton of players and benchwarmers. If you ever looked at a football sideline, you can tell the team needs at least a 757 for all the people, not to mention all of the equipment and pads that they use.
