They make good use of all that generous vertical-stabiliser area, too.
A sign of good things to come, I hope, for the next ones  Smile

MCI will be one of the first cities to see F9 A318 service,

Also as a sidenote, the aircraft will NOT be able to pass under the skybridge connecting the main terminal to Concourse A in Denver due to the tail heigth...apparently it's a few inches too high!

This is turning into an urban (or aviation) legend.

The A318 could go under the airbridge - just.

The airbridge is 42 feet. The A318 tail is about 6 inches less than that.

But F9 is playing safe.

cheers

Ahh thanks for clearing that up mariner....I always thought it could if it wanted to....oh well, perhaps that is a bit too close for comfort.

Rumor was that to go under the airbridge, the tail must have clearance even if the nosegear were to collapse. Anyone care to confirm this?

I say just let all of the air out of the tires, she'll be able to get under there then  Big grin hehe just be facetious. Anyways....looking really nice. The A318 seems a little longer in that scheme...maybe becuase the FRONTIER on the side if huge.

Well, I must say, it looked way to short and stubby in Airbus colors, but this plane looks great.

Love the F9 slogan too.

The plane looks nice, but at a glance it looks exactly like an A319. The demo aircraft was noticeably smaller, but this one isn't.

Talk about an airplane with too short a fuselage! I believe this plane is CFM56-powered, judging from the engine nacelle design.

Is F9 the first airline to operate the A318 in revenue service?

I can't seem to get over how weird looking the A318 is. It's just too short! The Frontier livery looks real nice though.

On the plane it says "A whole different animal" instead of "The spirit of the west" Is that part of the new ad campaign?

If you can arrange for Frontier to air their commercials in Europe I might  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

The A318 looks a nice aircraft, those big engines make it seem powerful.

Clarification regarding the airbridge at DIA:

Only a/c that do not exceed the clearance height of the bottom of the bridge with a nosegear collapse, will be allowed to pass underneath.

Basically, if the A318 passes under and happens to have a nosegear collapse at the right moment, the top of the tail would strike the bottom of the bridge. That wouldn't be good for the airline, the airplane, or DIA.

Now, could the A318 pass underneath the bridge if that safety stipulation wasn't in place? Yes, as Mariner also points out: there are a few inches of clearance.
