Top US Ultralight Instructor Killed In Crash

Fri Jun 06, 2003 2:14 pm

Apparently Mike Jacober and a student went in flying a trike style ultralight on the Knik mudflats today. Jacober was one of the to US ultralight instructors and operated Arctic Sparrow Inc out of the Birchwood airport.

The aircraft burned on impact and there are reports on other news sources here in town that some of the wreakage was spoted 75 yards away, which may be indictative of an in-flight breakup.

This is indeed sad. I've never flown in an ultralight, and I have no plans to.

It turns out the student was from the same town I was from. I don't know him but I went to school with a fellow with the same family name, so I wonder if he is related

This is sad because down in Homer about two weeks another ultralight pilot was killed when his machine broke up imediately after takeoff. He had been on his first solo flight.

So two guys killed in ultralight crashes in two weeks from the same town with about 10K people in it.

Very sad  Sad
