Premium Economy Cabins

Sat Jun 07, 2003 7:30 am

Do people actually pay for the Premium Economy Cabins such as those found on British and Virgin, or are the majority of those passengers upgrades?

The cheapest I found for the June/July period between LAX and LHR was about $1,466, while the most expensive was upwards of $2,500 on BA (didn't check Virgin).

What I'm driving at is, do people set out specifically to find these types of fares? Are there actually that many passengers who would pay this much extra for the additional space, or are these cabins usually filled with frequent flyers from "regular" economy?

Thanks,

On VS Premium Economy is quite often overbooked on some routes with people who have actually booked that class.

Sometimes we do have to u/g people from Y-W (thats just part and parcel of the overbooking system) and it's been known that we have had to u/g every booked premium pax into Upper to accomodate overbooked econ pax.

So Yes people do book premium and pay for the extra room, though on some routes (especially ex LGW) if they booked through VS Holidays, they pay an extra supplement to sit in Premium rather than buying a full fare premium ticket.

Premium economy is not worth it.... considering at least on my hops AFL is around $1900 in C to SVO.

That being said, which airline offers the best premium economy product onboard?

I think its well worth paying the extra to upgrade to premium economy. I always fly this with Virgin if I can help it. You get more legroom, bigger seat and the service is a little better. Saying that, there is a HUGE step up to Upper Class which I experienced yesterday.
