Australian Airlines Inaugurate Newflights From SIN

Sat Jun 07, 2003 11:48 am

Australian Airlines will start flights to SIN from Denpasar and Kota Kinabalu on 27th July and 30th July respectively.

I guess with the SARS crisis over in Singapore, passenger numbers are starting to pick up again.

Currently only MAS flies to Kota Kinablau from SIN, and my guess for the SIN-DPS sector on Australian Airlines will replace Qantas on that route.

I very much doubt Australian will have traffic rights between BKI and SIN...

Tickets are already on sale in Singapore for the SIN-BKI sector.

In actual fact, I just got some prices between SIN and BKI on Australian Airlines! So I guess there are traffic rights there!

Gosh - I stand corrected. Mind you it will mainly cater for a very small market with only a weekly schedule. SIA found it hard to make any money on the route with twice weekly flights let alone a sole weekly one.

Now the prices from SIN on Australian Airlines are on a promotion, it costs S$295 to DPS and BKI, S$523 to Cairns, Gold Coast and Sydney (via DPS).

East Malaysia is very popular with European adventure travellers, and perhaps Qantas passengers ex-Europe will now be able to connect on the weekly SIN-BKI flight . . . and if this connection proves popular enough, perhaps AO will bump up the schedule to a more respectable twice or thrice-weekly.

But it never could fill up enough seats for SQ, even with the European travellers.

Although I've read reports from the East Malaysian governments asking SilkAir to fly there.
