List Of Last Pax Flight Dates Of Each Jet Type

Mon Jun 09, 2003 4:28 am

Search as I might, I have not found a comprehensive list of last scheduled passenger flight dates of each retired aircraft type. Here are my best guesses...please correct or give more details if you can.

Vickers VC-10: 1981 w/British Airways (or did an African carrier fly them a bit longer?)
DeHavilland Comet: 1980? w/Dan Air
HS Trident: 1995? w/CAAC
Convair CV880/990: 1988 w/Spantax
SA Caravelle: 2001 w/Gabon Express
Douglas DC8: 1996 Air Marshall Islands (I actually flew on Little Amy!!!)
Dassault Mercure: 1995 Air Inter

Any more BAC-111, B707 (Iran still flying pax them?) in scheduled pax service? Also soon to end pax service I'm afraid: L1011 and MD11 (the latter due to popularity w/frieghters).

Well this is about sched. passenger flights, most types continue way after that as freighter or within airforces.
Correcting the above list;
The Trident last flew sched. pax around 1990 and continued as VIP aircraft for the Chinese Air Force till about 1995.
Spantax was a charter carrier, withdrew its last Cv-990 in march 1987
The 707 should be up in the air doing schedules with Saha Air inside Iran, also selected operations in Africa, Jordania, Romania, Argentina might have a scheduled character.
The 1-11 flies domestics in Guatemala with Tikal Jets till april 2003, might have been replaced by their DC-9s since.

Some of the more interesting propellor aircrafts final passanger services;
Bristol Britannia; BCF Aviation in Zaire actually took pax along, wfu july 1991
Vickers Vanguard; Merpati Indonesia april 1987
Vickers Viscount; true scheduled services by Bouraq Indonesia till mid 1996 / farewell enthousiast flights in England november 1997
DC-4; Air North Canada, early 1990s, enthousiast flights available
DC-6 Namibia Commercial AL, till august 1999, enthousiast flights will be available in the future
DC-7; mid 1970s, Spantax or somewhere in latin America
HP Herald; Aerovias Guatemala till around 1997
Lockheed Constellation; scheduled services with Quisqueyana (Dominican Republic) till 1978, selected enthousiast flights available since the 1990s
Lockheed Electra; Reeve Aleutian, december 2000
Martin 404; RentAvion of Venezuela, around 1999 (selected enthousiast flights available in the US)

Many other types have only 1 or 2 airlines left operating passengers around the world; like the Curtiss Commando; Nord 262; Fairchild F-27, Convairs etc.
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

Interesting stuff. I had no idea that the 707 was still used by so many for pax flights. Odd that CAAC stopped flying their pax tridents in 1990, many of them were built in the late 70s!
