Well Done Srilankan.  Big thumbs up

I totally agree, they do have the most friendliest cabin crew, I have come across.

Funny thing is 8 out of the top 10 are Asian carriers and the other two Middle east! European / American carriers take note!

Surprised EK & SQ scored less.

I'm glad MAS won as they're service was as good as their food!

It's also no surpise to see Emirates down to 10th as judging by what my wife explained to me when the family flew with them, I was quite shocked at their poor standards of service after seeing so many adverts saying how good they 'allegedly' were. My wife asked one of the f/a to warm up some formula milk for our baby on a recent trip and had to wait 40mins before she had to remind them that she had given them milk to be warmed up, then to her horror the milk was given back filled up higher than she gave it (meaning that the stupid f/a added hot water into the bottle, rather than warmimg the bottle) thus making the formula milk undrinkable!  Pissed - Absolutely idiotic!

Well done Malaysia Airlines - again!

3 in a row for MAS - its a testament to their excellent service and quality that many of us frequent flyers with them rant about  Big thumbs up

Now if only they can get their ground staff to buck up to their standards - perhaps we would see MAS climbing even further than 4th in the Best Airline category...

Let's hope MAS continues to climb out of this stormy sky...

I'm wondering the same thing as DTWNWA, where are all the American and European carriers?? Is the service on European and American carriers really that low?

I recently flew BA in coach and it was fine. First time on them long haul and I would go back. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Flight over was not very full and overnight flight, return was full and day light full and staff went above and beyond serving this flight.

NWA was in that top ten list probably 25 years ago. The problem with NWA that those very same cabin staff are still flying with the airline! Which raises the question, which will be retired first: DC-9 or their cabin crew?

Disclaimer. Off course I'm just joking here . . .

Congratulations MAS! My sister who is in Germany now emailed me telling me about the wonderful service when she flew MAS to LHR earlier.

I'm surprised to see Emirates ranked so low.

I must say it's suprising to see Singapore Airlines slip to 9th position and Emirates 10th, it just shows the hype surrounding these airlines and their supposed high standards of service.

It certainly is very interesting that four of the top ten are from East Asia, three from Southeast Asia, one from South Asia, and two from the Middle East. I do take the results with a pinch of salt. Malaysia seems to be able to get top honor only in Skytrax's surveys. Why? MH is no doubt much better than most US and European carriers. But relative to my experiences on other Asian carriers, cabin staff on MH was pretty mediocre. Among Asian carriers, I would pick CX, SQ, TG, BR, JL, and NH over MH in a heart beat. I won't touch CI, and OZ is unimpressive. I'm pretty astounded how these two can be on the top 5 list.

Flew CO last year. In 40+ years of flying both as pax and crew, it was a first flight for me - and a last. To think I'd paid for First Class, no less. I have never seen such poor ground crew, flight crew, and a total bad experience. There were even instances of disregard for safety. I admit most US carriers suck these days, but I thought CO was appalling. Bob Six must be spinning in his grave!

Would somebody be kind enough to give me examples of the " great servivce" and exactly what they are doing to surpass others in the same profession?

As much as I believe in great service, I also believe that the airline has to have the product to offer the passenger in order to provide the great service. I am finding that in Canada, and including the airline I work for, the cutbacks are such that the product quality is just going downhill. How can a cabin staff offer outstanding service when the linen service, the wine, port and cheeses, the liquer service and dessert trolleys have been eliminated? It is such a shame because a smile can only go so far. Cheers!

I always go out of my way to give outstanding service, but with limited product it appears to the passenger that the crew is not doing much for them and this is a shame.

Interesting point rootsgirl - the Skytrax survey is a 'survey' so by definition it is a cross-sectional vote by respondants. I guess its just that's what people at the end of the day remember as being the airline(s) that gave 'good service'. Nothing in particular about products or individual specialities of the particular airline is taken into account.

I guess (as a frequent flyer with MAS) I can vouch that they do give excellent service (generally - as I believe I'm open-minded to that fact that there have been flights with MAS when service has been good and efficient but little more so). OVERALL though - the cabin crew on MAS have always made me feel welcomed and even in Economy where I spend most of my flying days - most seem to enjoy their job and show it by being very natural about their service.

Personally - in economy on MAS

1. 9 out of 10 times - I am usually addressed by my appropriate title and name on being welcomed on-board, during the flight and right up to stepping off the plane at the other end.

2. MAS crew (especially on long flights as I often do LHR-KUL) always try to help parents with young children - this is almost always evident - from boarding, to after the meal service - crew often help entertain the kids, talk to the older ones, often carry the younger ones for periods of time - to help parents have some peace and quiet and settle families. That I have rarely seen on other airlines that I spent many years flying with.

3. They seem to be a hard working bunch and often bear it with a smile - my last report - I mentioned the stewardess who had sore feet (as most crew do I'm sure) as she frowned and winged 'This is the worst flight we do (the KUL-LHR daylight service) as its just nonstop for 13 hours and its always packed!' - but she then winked, smiled, picked up another tray of water at the galley and continued her rounds through the cabin. Fair cop, I say - no doubt its true.

4. There are flights when some crew members are having off-days - but we're all human and on-balance it doesn't seem to matter with them. The standard is usually so high that its rarely noticed.

Being voted first 3 times in a row doesn't necessarily mean that MAS is the best airline to fly with all the time - and that other airlines are simply poor. Its just a reflection of what passengers who have flown them generally 'take home' with them at the end of the flight.

Example... Having flown BA for over 20 years...

Excellent as an airline generally but at the end of the day - faceless service and more often than not - the cabin crew don't portray to passengers as being there to serve passengers. (Some may argue they are not there for that reason but for safety reasons - to which I would also agree - but the crew can sometimes be quite abrupt for little reason). Overall - I wouldn't vote for them for this reason eventhough I think they are a good airline generally.

Above all - maybe its just Malaysian nature to be friendly... (nb - I say that having Malaysian family members  Smile/happy/getting dizzy )

Congratulations to SriLankan Airlines Cabin Staff.

They really did a great job and good to see them ahead of most Asian carriers. They are really on the way to be Asia's best ...
