Airliner Review June Issue - MD 11

Tue Jun 10, 2003 8:24 pm

Hello,

I was just wondering what you all thought of the Magazine Airliner Review in general, and specifically the article about the MD 11 in the June issue.

Thanks,

I've never heard of it.

I don't believe the magazine Airline Review is good enough to even serve as toilet paper. I can't say a single good thing about it.

Regarding your MD-11 article, I only saw the first copy you sent me to "edit." I won't comment.

Ah so it was written by you. Reading it, I actually thought it was by an MD-11F pilot. How wrong one can be.

I personally found it somewhat dissapointing that you did not include a list of past/current operators. That is absolutely vital in any aircraft article. Moreover, there was no mention of Swissair/Swiss, the single (passenger) airline that held/holds the aircraft in very high regard.

Otherwise, good job!

Regards,
Jeremiah

While that is not my call, I don´t agree. I don´t really see a compelling reason to include a list of operators...

I received one issue which contained an article on Qantas. The large number of inaccuracies was enough, but the fact that the airline was referred to as 'Quantas' throughout the text was the last straw. There are better aviation magazines out there!

Out of the issues I have received (the first two) I was satisfied mostly, especially knowing/hoping they can get better.. afterall they are a brand new magazine. But after hearing some of the things that have happened to their photogs it makes me a bit uneasy- hopefully they can get their act together.

It actually pretty much is your call, had you included a list in script you sent to the editor. The vast majority of Aircraft articles in Airliner World etc. have a list of operators.

I never said others did not include a list, I said I did not see a compeling reason. I never read those lists and I don´t know many people who do. I´m sure that a small, yet vocal, minority will tell me otherwise...

Flyboy36,

Well a list is handy for future reference for a start.

I have not read the said article and will therefore not comment on the quality of the editorial or photography.

In reading an article on any airliner type, the reader is bound to (consciously or unconciously) make judgement about the success or failure of this aircraft type.

A reader may have seen many different examples of this airliner, know of others but have not seen them and must be curious if there were other operators that he/she has not even known of.

As such, a list of all known operators / owners would be an attractive feature . . . sure it is not vital, but still nevertheless, an attractive and highly desirable feature.

Without taking a poll, we could all debate till the A380 is roll-out of the hangars in Toulouse what the majority thinks . . . but suffice to say that I join those who think that the absence of a list of operators/owners speaks louder than its inclusion.

I bought an issue of that once while in London, wasn't worth the two pounds. Rampant typos, wrong list of airlines in Star Alliance, Not exactly reputable.

Just a note to clarify here, the magazine I critisized earlier was Airliner World not Airliner Review, I am sorry about the mistake.

So, are we discussing AIRLINER REVIEW as per topic, or AIRLINE REVIEW as per some of the criticisms? I'm only familiar with the first two issues of the latter, which I find very disappointing. Regards...Jack
