News From Irish Airlines?

Mon Jun 16, 2003 1:34 am

Hi All,

After a trip to Dublin this week I have a few things to report back...

It MAY have been discussed before - however I did search and the new points I am raising were not present as afar as I could see! So, please don't kill me!

Aer Arann.

They have a new image, which is reflected within their airport terminal areas. This style is much improved from their old one but is still recognizable from their old style.

I could see no pictures on A.net - please see their website for their logo. I cannot find any pictures on the web. But their A/c look like they have a flag on the tail, like the Estonian flag, but starting at the top with bright blue, then white then darker blue at the bottom.

Sorry - forgot my camera!

Aer Lingus.

As much as I really love Aer Lingus and fly with them everytime I visit the Emerald Isle (About once every two months!) they are changing more and more things the the awful AerLingus.com logo. I know WHY they are doing it, but I thought it was a temporary scheme for some of the 737s.

They also have a new a/c in the billboard scheme. They already had two - one with the blue on the tail, one with their standard fuselage green on the tail and now a new one with the lighter green (of the Standard Shamrock) on the tail.

If that was not enough - lots inside the terminal has changed. Their over check in screens show the .com logo. Their sticky tape for packing things up has been replaced with the .com image. I also saw passengers with the .com on their ticket wallets.

I am not too convinced that this is not part of a bigger plan.

Save the Shamrock!

Comments (and free flights to DUB/SNN/ORK) appreciated! Thank You.

The express has been dropped in the new branding,
Have they introduced a new livery yet? or is it just the same as the old one?

Things have changed very much in Irish aviation, more of less for the better, although (as Teahan will no doubt comment on!) we need competition at Dublin Airport.

Aer Lingus has successfully turned itself into a low cost carrier and has turned itself around financially also. They are about to launch a big order for 738s or 32Xs (my feeling is they'll go for 320s!), so I suspect the 737s, which are to be phased out will keep this livery until the new aircraft arrive. Whether the new fleet will have .com titles is anyone's guess (although probably not Aer Lingus's - they already know!)

It is all not happening in Dublin either! A new Cork based airline, Jetmagic, have been flying since April with two Embraer ERJ 145s. Cork has always cried out for direct services to continental Europe and now Jetmagic are providing direct flights at great prices to Brussels, Barcelona, Belfast City, Nice, Alicante, Milan MXP, Rome CIA and summer seasonal flights to Nantes and Jersey. Jetmagic are due to receive two ERJ 135s shortly and they will begin serving London LCY from 18th August. Recently, Jetmagic have announced that from 15th September they will also be offering daily flights to Liverpool, Edinburgh and Paris CDG. A very exciting time in Cork these days!
