Will LH's YUL-MUC Flight Be Seasonal

Wed Jun 18, 2003 2:26 am

Surprisingly today,

The LH flights to MUC for winter 2004, are no longer in the system. So I wonder, is this a trial flight, or will this be a seasonal route.

Yesterday's flight left 100% full, the whole business class section was bought by the BMW Williams F1 team, all of which paid full fare for their seats.

Thursday's flight is the same deal, all sections of the aircraft F.J.Y are sold-out.

So I hope they keep this flight year-round.

I think LH has not made up their minds yet about the winter schedule, according to my latest info (June 14th) the MUC-YUL flight will go 5x a week in the winter. We shall see, I keep you updated.

I tend to think the YUL-MUC flights will be seasonal. AC's YYZ-MUC, as well as a whole bunch of Transatlantic AC routes from YYZ, are seasonal (Manchester, Copenhagen, Dublin, Amsterdam, Zurich etc). I don't see any reason why Montreal will have a higher traffic, considering YYZ is a bigger hub for AC. I almost used LH and AC interchangeably, because of their alliance relationship.

However, the connections available are much greater for LH on the Munich end than it is for Air Canada at any of the destinations you mentioned. AC is seasonal to AMS from YYZ, but KLM isn't. AC is seasonal to Zurich, but Swiss isn't. I think it's the connections at the Europe end that keep these flights going.

Well LH has soldout almost all of their flights this summer.

I can tell you this by the availability charts. yesterday's flight had 12 Denied boarding due to oversales.

Right, using the same logic, since YYZ has more connection traffic via AC than YUL, with MUC being constant (with AC and LH partners), wouldn't we expect YYZ-MUC being served year round before we see YUL-MUC going so?

You also have to keep in mind how much competition there is out of YYZ. Toronto has a lot more Euro bound flights than Montreal. So YUL-MUC may have an okay chance of making it year round. Not saying they will, as I have no insight to LH's thinking.

Firstly, YYZ-MUC is served year round.

Secondly, YUL-MUC has little to no effect on YYZ-MUC. LH serves the strong demand for the FRA route that is always oversold, and spills over to MUC.

Air Canada's intent is to develop Montreal has a 2nd hub to Canada, a much smaller and efficient one than perhaps YYZ.

i thought i´d be year round, but with great reductions in frequency in winter. if they were to operate 5/7 that would still be an increase from 4/7 summer so i highly doubt that. somewhere i heard they´d operate 2/7 but that would seem very unlikely considering that´s a really low frequency for one of LH´s transatlantic flights.

cheers

YYZ-MUC used to be year round, but not in the past (one, if not two) winter(s).

Wunderk,

Im telling you bud, YYZ-MUC operated 5 weekly this winter, a friend took the flight.

As for YUL-MUC... in the NW PARS system, the flights show that they would re-start next may anyway.

In any event,

LH's flights to YUL seem like an instant success... all of them are showing limited availability until Mid-September. Most flights already have a sold-out J cabin until August, and this would also invoke that many have paid full-fare given that upgrades can only be made 72 hours prior to departure.

The next 3 flights show 100% overbooked in all cabins.

Where did you get those numbers from? I have access to LH's own system and I can tell you that the next 3 flights are definitely NOT all sold out! I'm sorry that I'm not allowed to give exact numbers but so far business is only roughly half full for the next few days, eco full on some days and aroud 70% on other days.

@ Mark
Could you please post your numbers for LH474 for the 19th, 21st and 23rd of June? Those are the flights I checked and the figures were like I said earlier. I'm just interested in seeing the differences in our scources. Thanks!
