Thu Dec 09, 1999 9:41 am

Hi!Dear all:

I want to learn to fly and get a PPL. But the problem is I have shortsight on my eyes. Does anyone know the max limit of that problem on learn for PPL?
Also, if I learn in USA, does anyone know the cost of the course?

Thanks

All you have to do is have vision that is correctable to 20/20, if you have that you can get a Third Class Medical Certificate.

The minimum time requirements on the PPL are 40 hours.. and that averages around $4000. However, the FAA doesn't like it if you apply for the license with only 40 hours. The national norm is 60-70 hours.

I'm currently pursuing mine and if you read my post entitled "Private Pilot License Finally" you'll see that I'm taking the test on Saturday. So, I'm as deeply involved in it as anyone here. I can answer any question you have regarding it, that you have.

Without regarding all the extra stuff (scanner, books, headset, etc...) I paid about $3,250 for my license alone, and that includes the $150 I paid for the check-ride. In addition I paid about $500 for books and headset (which is on the high-side; you can get away with much less than that). So expect about $3,500 to $4,000 for the license (this, of course, depends on the amount of hours it will take you to learn to fly.

Why don't you just get glasses? It would be cheaper to train in Canada b/c of the dollar difference.
