Somthing About Older Planes, Inside And Out...

Sun Jun 29, 2003 4:09 pm

From my standpoint, flying in a new plane, i.e. 777 as opposed to a DC10 isn't the same. It's strange...the older planes have this smell and feel to them. I'm bring this up because I flew in a 777 for the first time a couple weeks ago, by way of CO. It was a great plane and all, but it just didn't give me the same feeling I get on a DC10. Everything's round, modern, & new on the 777, as it should be. But...there's just somthing about those old jets! Right when you board a DC10, or 727 you smell this airplane smell. It's a mixture of coffee, food, and who knows what else. The 777 smelled like a new car, as do our new 73G's with the leather seats. Anyways just wanted to share that.  Smile Anybody?

Well... Of course I would like to fly in a DC-8, a B727 or an Il86, aircrafts I like and I have good memories of.

But recently I got back from a trip to Argentina in which I had the chance to fly an Iberia MD-80, a IB 747-300, an Aerolineas 737-200 and a VIP Jetstream 32.

The last leg of my return flight (MD), Spain">MAD-STO) was on a Finnair Airbus 321 that I guess had just a few flights in its service sheet. And let me tell you this: it was like entering a different world. Everything was new, well-functioning, comfortable, silent. It was like business in economy class. Not to mention the screens and the outside cameras showing takeoff, the landscape underneath during flight and the landing. The clean and fresh toilets.

Many aircrafts are aging with grace and appeal to different feelings. But the new modern airliners play in another, much better, division. That is of course my personal opinion.

Best regards
