Song Impresses Me

Mon Jun 30, 2003 1:27 am

I non-reved on SONG this morning (SUN/29th) ATL/JFK and had a very nice experience. I was prepared to not like it and ended up thinking that it is a very nice product.

Some highlights:

-We left 10 minutes late after waiting for 6 connecting passengers.
-We pulled into the gate in JFK exactly on time.
-The aircraft was about 60% full before non-revs.
-ATL gate agents said that they normally see larger loads and often have oversales, but that SUN was normally a good day to non-rev.
-The FA's were very friendly as were the gate agents.
-The interior was bright and clean.
-The SEATROOM was SPACIOUS by coach standards. At 6'3'' my knees did not touch the seat ahead of me even when that seat was reclined.
-Gameboys were passed out.
-The food menu had more choices than I expected and was relatively reasonable at $1 to $3 per item. As an example an "organic " apple was $1.
-The overhead bins were larger than the mainline 757's.

Song is a better product than a mainline 757 seat. The price is better. The service is better. And the legroom is better (My number #1 issue).

...and if you think that's impressive just wait until Oct/03 when the Industry Leading IFE product is rolled out.

Sounds like they are really good. Will they also introduce live TV like JetBlue and is it possible to collect miles with my Delta SkyMiles card?

MD88,
Word here in the company back when Song started is that they had a temporary ban on non-rev travel on Song...is that restriction lifted now, or are you a special circumstance? I'm a LONG way down the Delta totem pole/rumor mill so I'm the last to hear about these things  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

they had a temporary ban on non-rev travel on Song

AFAIK, the only ban was on S4s from using Song. Pretty much anyone who had a passcard was eligible for Song from day 1.

Song allows you to collect Delta SkyMiles I think.

Speaking of that, I think I saw your 757, I was taking off from the active (the other side of 31R) and I saw a Song 757 at around 9:50-10:00, was that your a/c.

I want to fly Song, but I'm going to wait until the IFE is up and running!

Same here JHooper, I will wait until the IFE is up, and then fly them.

I will probably get on them in Feb. 2004

Non-reving was exactly the same as the DAL mainline. I do not know about S-4 pass use, but I do know that you cannot use buddy passes on SONG.
My plane landed at JFK aroung 1135 and there were 3 additional SONG aircraft on the ground.

MD-88, I think you're right...the S-4A friends and family passes were the only ones banned. my mistake!

Why were they banned? Just curious, since the local station counter agreement passes Delta issues us are S-4.

It probably won't be banned forever. I think they're just trying to work out the logistics of it so it can be handled more smoothly.

Is there any website where i can see how the IFE is going to be like?

On http://www.flysong.com/song_and_you/experience/index.jsp I found this:

TV, games, mp3s... is this really a plane?

By early 2004, every seat on Song flights will be decked out with a personal video monitor so you can:

watch all-digital satellite TV from DISH Network
create a playlist of digitally-streamed MP3s.
watch pay-per-view programming on demand, there's something for all ages.
play multi-player interactive games with other passengers.
find points of interest along your trip with iXplor, a zoomable video map.
get gate information for connecting flights.
