KLM Details Please....

Some simple and not so exciting questions, but any data is appreciated. I am taking a trip to Japan in July, flying from LHR to NRT via AMS on KLM, in economy class. Can anyone give me general impressions of KLM service on long-haul flights? Do they have PTVs, how is the food, how are the seats? Anything else important that I should know?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers from London.

I have flown longhaul on KLM to DEL and SEL, hoiwever thats' a while ago (I discovered the pleasure of flying Asian airlines), but back then I considered KLM one of the better european airlines what their economy class product concerns. However untill today I believe there are still no PTV's in economy, this might change with the arrival of their new 330/777 aircraft. My general impression of the cabin crew is that they are always ready to serve you, no grumpy ladys! There is plenty of alcohol, on demand, and after dinner the flight attendant comes around with brandy or bailleys (or something similar). The most exciting thing, IMO, is you destination, Tokyo  Love

I flew them last year ams-jfk-ams on a 744combi (economy) and I found it quite enjoyable ! No PTVs, but the food was good. The cabin crew was very nice as well! Friendly and willing to help! Search for my trip report I wrote back then!

cheers,
Martijn

Flown AMS-CUR-AMS last year on a 743. Excellent service, good seats, decent food (certainly a lot better than in the past. Their food was bad but it seems they listened to the complaints). Friendly flight attendants, pilots still have a tendency to talk too much to the cabin with useless announcements though  Laugh out loud

Flew a 737 AMS-LHR-AMS in 2001, also good but skip the food (outbound was early morning and the sandwhich was frozen, inbound was late afternoon and it was dry. It's probably OK between 1000 and 1400  Smile/happy/getting dizzy).

non-alcoholic drinks are free, and I think alcoholic drinks too (or at least the first one).

Flew KL from AMS-DEL.... Nice crew. No PTV's  Sad They served this awful pizza 1.5 hours out and they served Ice cream which i thought was very nice! Def. good food.

Will be flying w/ them in October - ORD-AMS-DEL-AMS-ORD. Will give more details then...

Cheers!

Leo/ORD

Thanks all - very much appreciate the insight... I guess I don't mind the lack of PTVs - I usually read anyway. I'll miss having the moving map display though... Oh well. Price/convenience factor was right for this trip.

So you like the destination do you Manni? If there's anything I can tell you about Tokyo, let me know.

Cheers and thanks again.
