YYZ August 16/17 T1 Spotting

Thu Jul 03, 2003 12:42 am

I'm starting a new thread to see who wants to come to YYZ on the weekend of August 16-17 for spotting, especially up top of Terminal 1. As many know, Terminal 1 will be demolished this year, and one of the greatest views will be gone for good.

The other thread was getting too long to easily sift through the messages. Let's get a list of people who can make it that weekend!

Regards,

Nuno.

OK, I'm in. Thanks for taking the lead on this. As I said in the previous post, I'm looking forward to it, having been raised in Toronto. I fell in love with aviaiton on the top of T1.

OK,

I am now saying yes to attending on the 16-17 Aug. I am glad to see there will be at least 4 people there. I am going to call and book my flights and my hotel for the nite. If there are any changes over the next 24 hours please let me know. I am going to put the tickets on hold until tomorrow just in case something changes.

Cheers,

I'll be in Lethbridge at the Airshow for that weekend, so unfortuntly I won't make it....unless the airshow gets cancelled. Though I still will be out sometime in the summer.

Well, of course that weekend is far away, but count me in!

Was just out at YYZ, spent my time at Fedex shooting departures off 23.

Hope to see loads of people turning out for this one, T1 deserves a good farewell bash.

I'm on vacation that week so I hope to make the trip up the QEW from BUF for the get-together. What could be better than a trip to YYZ T1 for spotting get together followed by a steak at the Keg on Dixon road.

I'll check back for times and try to have a more definitive answer as to if we will make the trip. Thanks for the update and I hope to meet every one in August

AWspicious, we make trips to YYZ 2 to 3 times a year and have been doing so for 20 years plus, our last trip was June 21-23 for the Nick Cave concert we stayed at the Airport Marriott ($31.00 US night via priceline!, sure beats $220.00 US/night at the Grand!), My main reason for staying out at the Airport was to combine some spotting with the concert. Outside of the Marriott's pool area and up a hill I could get a fair view of many planes on approach (to bad my scanner gave up the will to live) the pics were ok but what I would give for a bit more zoom.

As I said in my previous post I hope to make the trip, wifey loves TO so I know it would be no problem in making the trip. I go back to work July 7, after 3 months on disability (Darn heart attack), so I should be able to get the cash together.

Yours,

Have you tried the spotting at FedEx? It's one of the more decent locations.

Word is the FedEx location will eventually be closed, as it is a private road.

Hope you can make it, and hope things are going well for you Pheo!

Probably because of all the littering, damn-it! (and because some folks ignore the shooting range)

I'm due to fly into YYZ (from India via AMS on KL) sometime that week, so I'll try and manipulate it to make it in time for this event. I really need to come to one of the YYZ events - I've been promising and never turning up for over a year now!

What!!!!!!, they will close down the Fedex area???? Why would they do this?

After T1 goes, our selection of viewing areas will greatly diminish.

I don't see anywhere official being created for us spotters.

it only takes a few to screw it up for everyone else. The fedex area is looking a bit junky.

My parents are returning on August 17th from LIS, so it will work out well ... especially if the flight is delayed.  Big grin

Hey... if they're flying Air Trash, you can count on it Nuno!  Laugh out loud

In my case on that date I will either be free or working at Consolidated. Either way, I'll be able to be there... it's just a question of what level  Wink/being sarcastic.

Anyone else saw Zoom yesterday? Nuno and I saw it land at 19:10 on RWY 24L and take off again at 21:00 on RWY 23. Couldn't get a nice shot as it was getting dark... shucks. Love the all blue 67. The "City of Ottawa" clearly stood out from all the white fuselages... go Zoom!

Wondering if anyone knows what or whose aircraft was parked over by midfield this afternoon, approx 1525. It was silver with pinkish and purple hues. Obviously it was a private jet, but I did not have time to get a good look as we had touched down and I spotted it from my jumpseat.

What camera do you use? Your camera looks like it works great during the day and at night.

With regards to August 16/17 it's shaping up to be a busy few days on the T1 roof. The more the merrier.

How many airplanes does ZOOM have? I keep seeing that same C-GZUM (minds out of the gutter, people) every time.
I think I may have caught a glimpse of what RootsGirl saw as it flew over the house. I was just as stumped by it's identity, as well.
Hey, Pimp-daddy! You back? Your tour of duty in Burlington draw to a close, already?
Speaking of cameras - Panasonic recently launched a digi-cam with a 12x optical zoom. I don't recall the exact price, but, I seem to remember something around the 6 or 8 hundred dollar mark. Check their Canadian website for details. (not a promo)
