F9 And Mesa - The End?

Thu Jul 03, 2003 3:47 am

According to F9, the relationship will end in January, because of MESA's new, expanded deal with UAL:

So what happens to Frontier jet Express? Does it continue with another company?

Or will the F9 CEO's hint come true - will F9 buy some of it's own RJ's?

It's anyone's guess.

cheers

Jet Express is great. . .but I dislike Mesa. I hope F9 will buy/lease its own RJs. If that isn't the case, I'm sure other express carriers will gladly pick up when Mesa leaves.
Ding! You are now free to keep supporting Frontier.

I'm with you, DIA.

Someone suggested that Air Wisconsin could step in. Part of the problem for F9 with the UAL/MESA deal is that prohibits MESA from flying duplicate routes for another airline (F9).

I checked the Air Whiskey map, and there's very little duplication.

But I'd rather see F9 in control of it's own fleet, it's own destiny.

cheers

ACA might have plenty of RJ's for F9 to use if ACA and UA can't come to an agreement on new rates.

I don't think F9's RJ operation has been particularly successful, so F9 may just bail out of the whole thing. I'm still not sure if small RJ's really can work for a low-cost carrier given that RJ's are somewhat inherently NOT low-cost.

Maybe F9 will follow B6 and do it themselves.

I personally think that they could possibly use aircraft for the selves, or possibly contract SkyWest to take over JetExpress...or maybe, just maybe, Chautauqua
