Midway Airlines?

I recently saw a press release from CAE that said they made a deal with Midway Airlines to provide CRJ200 sim training. Maybe I am not up to date with Midway, but didn't they cease to exist?

They are now both much smaller and also a regional airline for US.

Midway is operating as US Airways Express with CRJs. They have been hubbed out of RDU but are moving their base of operations to DCA, I believe.

They just received their 7th CRJ and are planning on operating at least 25 for US Express

Thanks everyone for the response - found out that they are going to enact the Jets for Jobs program with the furloughed mainline US Airways pilots.

Really sad. I always liked Midway. Now they no longer have an identity or an actual fleet. Maybe one day we'll see them rise up again.

Before the 73G, Midway's entire fleet was CRJs...

...but I totally agree with the identity crisis.

I was a fan of Midway (the 1995-2002 Midway), as they had the nonstops from Florida to RDU, which I recently travelled to. I flew them a number of times TPA to RDU, and once JAX to RDU.

As far as their fleet, it consisted of F100's to start. Once they moved their hub from MDW to RDU, they saw a need for increased capacity and added A320s. They also eventually added CRJs to their mainline fleet. They eventually phased out the 320s are replaced them with 73Gs. I am not sure if the F100s stayed in the fleet until the end though. It might have only been 73Gs and CRJs.

I had a chance to fly on Midway's A320s and F100s, TPA-RDU and RDU-TPA. I also flew the CRJ JAX-RDU and RDU-JAX. All of the flights were great. I always thought Midway would have survived longer with their operations at RDU. The majority of the flights I took were full, and they seemed to be filling the nonstop flight gap that American left after they closed the RDU hub in 1995. They once had a good relationship with AA, but it was slowly dissolving and AA ultimately brought back some Eagle flights to RDU to compete with some of Midway's popular routes such as RDU-BOS and RDU-LGA.

Allegheny was huge once.......if it's the same Allegheny now all they are is a bunch of Dash-8's and US Airways Express... :-(.. Even though the F/A I had on BTV-LGA was great!!!!!! and on LGA-BWI! Airlines seem to disentegrate and become US Airways Express carriers.

still is. They've just changed their name to US airways. the Allegheny name is now just recycled for the regional carrier I believe. Same concept as the piedmont regional operation (US owns the name, it had a good reputation, so they're using it)

I had a chance to fly Midway in December, 2000 from BOS to MSY....1 F100 and 3 CRJ's....all flights were oversold and very, very comfortable. Outstanding service. What really killed Midway was over-expansion in such a short timeframe...especially the addition of transcon flights...not a smart move at that point in time. Cities like BHM, MEM, PVD, LAX all came and went very quickly for JI. They should have had a more modest growth plan and they would probably still be here today. It really is a shame because they offered service which was clearly a few notches above any airline flying at that time.

I was friends with the JI station manager here in New Orleans, and it got to a point at the end where she had to buy lunch for the fuel crew in exchange for fuel for the 737-700.

WOW MSYtristar that is really bad having to buy food for fuel. I remember when Midway served GRR for a little period. I also got the chance to non-rev on them before they ceased operations and it was quite nice. A friend of mine in SFO, works for TZ, worked for them for a short period of time in MDW and said they had a pretty good operation. Overexpansion seems to kill any airline.

Yeah, I flew them once from ATL-RDU-PBI-RDU-ATL (2 CRJs and 2 F100s) in 98 or 99, and they were a very good airline. Great service and friendly staff, blue leather seats with yellow piping on the CRJ. Although, I remember the terminal at RDU to be almost desolate during the peak period of the day. I feel bad for all the RDU staff who really cant catch a break. First AA deserts RDU for the most part, then JI goes under except for a few shreds.
