Status Of Air Canada Service To U.S.

Wed Jul 09, 2003 11:28 pm

We've seen a lot of downgrading in equipment on Air Canada from Canada to the U.S., mostly from Toronto. Obviously, AC's current problems are forcing them to revisit every route.

I was trying to book a flight from HPN to YYZ in August, expecting the CRJ. Instead, I saw it was a B1900D. Not too keen on that plane. I also noticed the B1900 for some flights to Hartford, where it used to be all Dash 8s, and now I see CRJs are being used YYZ-LGA, which used to be only A320/319.

What other routes have been downgraded?

Winnipeg-Chicago-Winnipeg is also being cut in late August, in favour of 2x Air Wisconsin/United Express CRJ flights.... instead of 2x daily AC + 2x daily UAX.

Just be patient guys. I realize that seeing a downgrade aircraft is not always the best BUT you'll see the CRJ back on HPN soon. As for the 1900D well ya that hurts. AC always buggers things up by doing this stuff...good example was Richmond, used to be a Dash and then a 1900! who wants to sit on a 1900 for 1h50. It used to be that it meant AC wasn't interested in the destination anymore and they'd pull the D8 for the Beech, then the loads would drop off. Within the next year or so, more CRJs will be coming and you'll see them pick up again. I will mention though, for routes that cannot fill a 319, you will definitely see a move to RJs. Sign of the times.

PVD used to see 3 DH8's a day...now, 1 DH8 and 2 1900D's.

STL,MCI,MSY were all cut as of mid-June, but are back in the schedules as of early September, which is a very, very good thing.

YYZ-HPN was a joke. That route was never full, COexpress or Air Canada JAZZ CRJ's.

At one point, AC had 3 flights a day with CRJ, and COex had 4 with RJ-135's.. funny how its down to 3 B1900's.

YYZ-HPN was at 3 CRJs? If I am not mistaken, the route was launched in September 2001 as a daily B1900 and has been a daily B1900 since then. It is upgrading to a daily CRJ this fall. Considering how often Air Canada "comes and goes" with routes, the fact it has lasted, in my mind, shows it has been a succsess. After all, White Plains is without a doubt one of the highest yielding markets in the country.

Yes, HPN was 3 or 4 CRJs until recently.

Come on, the 1900D is a fun plane! Hopefully the crew will keep the flight deck "door" open and if you sit up front you practically have the jump seat.
