Air India Selects B737-800 (Unconfirmed)

Fri Jul 11, 2003 8:25 am

The Indian press is apparently reporting that Air India aircraft evaluation committee has selected the B737-800. 12 firm orders and 8 options but how long will they take to actually being confirmed (remembering the Indian Airlines A320 selection)

Further good news for the B737 after Air Tran, ANA etc.

LMAO @ concordeboy. true so typical of Air India. But hey, guys dont forget, theres a parliamentary election next year, so the aircrafts have to be ordered.  Wink/being sarcastic or how ever will the Election ballot boxes be flown around  Wink/being sarcastic

Strange coincidence ..dont you think, that the Airline plumped for the 737 finally. Please see earlier Post on "Scandal in AIR-INDIA...again
http://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/read.main/1121668/ LOL

(see www.asianage.com ) http://www.asianage.com/main.asp?layout=2&cat1=1&cat2=22&newsid=60771&RF=DefaultMain

I can only see Naresh Goel licking his lips with the twin delight of utilising his spare 737 Engineering +simualtor capacity (built on space leased from AI at Santa Cruz) and the fact of his International Airline dream coming true, through the Charter route.

What the Hell, he has a great Airline, and deserves the luck. LOL

Politically, it seems fair to split the orders, with IC going Airbus and AI going Boeing. But, as you say, we have to hope things move along. As far as I'm aware, the Indian PM and senior govt bods see aircraft orders and fleet rejuvenation as a priority, but it's the civil service that's the problem. Teahan, you may think our lot back home are a nightmare; believe me, we don't know how lucky we are!

Still, the 737 has been in service for 35 years and the order book is fat, so there is a good chance aircraft will be ordered before production ceases.

You never know, maybe they just might get a few -700s as well . . .

Oh please.
Count on someone, somewhere in the Indian government or opposition launching a commission to investigate a commission to do this, that and the other. That idiotic so-called ministry of aviation should be abolished (because all it is is a pyramid scheme for greedy babus to make money) and with it government control of India's rickety state owned airlines.
