Second-Hand Aircraft Interiors...

Fri Jul 11, 2003 8:53 am

While browsing the database recently I came accross a cabin shot of a Sun D'Or B757 that looked familiar, even though I've never flown this airline.

On viewing the photo my first suspicions were confirmed, the aircraft is fitted with old Air 2000 seats. While I know it's not uncommon for smaller airlines to purchase second-hand seats, what I thought was very unusual was that the seats still had their old Air 2000 seat-covers.

I had always just assumed that when an airline purchased used seating, they would probably at least refurbish the seats with seat-covers appropraite to their own branding. In this case I suppose I shouldn't be surprised as outside the aircraft is still carrying the remains of British Airways' livery - its previous operator.

I was wondering if anyone else had noticed second-hand seats from one airline appearing on another's aircraft?

Regards

Some of Vanguard's MD-80's were ex-AA aircraft and still had the AA leather first class and blue cloth coach seats...pretty darn comfortable if you ask me.

Tower Air had seats from both TW & PA on their planes...seat belt buckles, too.

MSYtristar:

Actually, none of the NJ aircraft had AA seats. Some of them had their previous-owner's seats still installed, but those were all gray-covered. N812US was a USAirways aircraft before it came to us.

N130NJ, N131NJ, N140NJ, N141NJ, and N132NJ all had entirely new interiors. These aircraft had blue coach seats, but they were new and "ergonomic" (actually quite comfortable). N814US, N136NJ, and N135NJ had their previous owner's seating, but several seats were removed to provide "more room in coach".

N239TA (737-200) had refurbished seats.

By the way, our official company colors were blue, white and red, in keeping with our old 732s exteriors.

I should re-phrase:

None of our aircraft came directly from AA. If AA was a previous operator, however, that is unknown to me.

I remember riding an Ansett 767-300, EI-BZF, that had a Continental interior- side pannels, seats and all. Aircraft was a cancelled CO order.

Ditto with a Royal Brunei leased in 767-200, just off lease from LanChile, but still sporting Olympic Airways "OA" patterned seat covers.
