I have the Swiss Travel Club credit card (earlier Qualiflyer) since several years and I'm getting quite a lot of mileage points on my account. LH and AF offer the same thing in Switzerland but I don't know of Ireland or other places ...

*BA do an Amex that can get you into one world.
*bmi can do one that can get you into the Star Alliance.
*The star alliance is currently the biggest alliance in the world with 16 members and USAirways joining later in the year.
*There is a special offer with bmi at the minute where you receive a free flight for getting bmi Mastercard.
*bmi "Diamond Club" earns you miles quicker than BA "Executive Club".
*bmi miles can be earned on Star Alliance airlines, Virgin Atlantic and South African Airways and spent on those mentioned and also bmibaby.

You can apply for bmi Mastercard at www.flybmi.com

Hope that was useful.

(P.S. It wasn't intended to make that sound like an advert!!!)

William,

go for the Lufthansa Miles & More Visa Gold, if you sign up until December 31st you will get 7.000 additional miles because of a special promotion, all in all you will receive 10.000 welcome miles. You will also receive 1 mile for every Euro you spend. Next month I will receive 100 additional miles because I drunk a lot of beers at the hotel bar at LHR last weekend Big grin

Aerogold Visa together with Aeroplan offer the best of all the Star Alliance FF programs. Aeroplan points can be used on all of the Star Alliance airlines and you get one point for each dollar you spend.... check it out http://www.aeroplan.ca

I'm from the US so I don't know exactly what I'm talking about since I'm used to US airline credit cards, but I would suggest the BA card. More information about the BA card is available at http://www10.americanexpress.com/sif/cda/page/0,1641,12702,00.asp

In my opinion, the backbone of oneworld resides in Europe and the US. For the US, they have the world's largest airline, American Airlines. For Europe, they have Aer Lingus (your home-country airline), British Airways, Finnair, and Iberia. That is a major chunk of the European airlines, especially British Airways. I wouldn't be surprised if SWISS joined oneworld in the near future as well. For the rest of the world, oneworld offers you the largest Australian airline, Qantas, the best Asian airline out there, Cathay Pacific, and South America's largest carrier LanChile.

Wow...maybe I should work at PR for oneworld. Big grin

You've got to remember though that he is from Ireland, so he will generally be looking for a card for a European airline.
