Cheaper To Charter A Citation Than Fly On AA?

Wed Jul 16, 2003 5:53 am

I read this today on FreedomNet and got a chuckle out of it:

AMERICAN’S last-minute fares prompted the mayor of St. Louis, the governor of Missouri, and their top advisers to use a state-owned Citation jet recently to fly to Texas to meet with AA executives, rather than flying aboard an American jet. According to a story in the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Mayor Francis Slay said that buying walk-up tickets on American for the last-minute meeting was “not a realistic option.” The director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development said in the story that tickets for the seven-person group would have cost about $1,000 apiece, adding that the cost of flying in the state-owned jet was “substantially less.”

That can't set a good tone when you can't afford to fly on the airline with whom you're meeting.

This is actually kind of cool. First, it shows how rediculus last minute walk up fares are, and it shows that there is somewhere out there a politican trying to save money.  Big thumbs up

Sounds like a publicity stunt from a group of people who aren't too happy with American Airlines right now.

Holden promised people if he won the election he would get rid of that jet too... The state got into trouble with the jet when they used it to shuttle around people on personal trips. But the reality of the situation is true, they saved time and money flying their aircraft than commerical aviation.

Yes, but lets not forget Gov. Holden has come under fire before because he uses that jet twice as much as Gov. Carnahan did.
