USAir (not US Airways) actually used to serve JFK
. They had flights from Pittsburgh as well as "The Concorde Connection." During the era of British Airways' partial ownership of USAir, the Concorde Connection was a Dash-8 service that connected Washington National with JFK
. It was supposedly a "luxury" service with champagne designed for passengers connecting to BA
They are not the only US major to have avoided JFK
. Continental now serves JFK
Express flights to Cleveland, but that's quite a recent development. Likewise, Northwest used to only offer flights to Narita and Amsterdam, during the past five years, they introduced domestic service to Detroit.
