JFK Runway Question

Fri Jul 18, 2003 9:33 am

I was on Crossbay blvd in queens yesterday and I was wondering what runway number is the one that crosses right over this road? Also what are good spotter friendly areas near JFK and what times are the best to spot?

No runway "crosses" Cross Bay Blvd, but on 31L departures, the planes do turn over it. So perhaps Runway 31 Left is the answer to your question.

The beach right over the first bridge going south on Cross Bay Blvd is a good place to watch planes. Get your binoculars though!

JFK RUNWAYS ARE 13/31 LEFT AND RIGHT 22/04 LEFT AND RIGHT

THE CROSSBAY APPROACH HAS A FEW CONFIGURATIONS, USING THE CARNARSIE VOR FOR THE SHARP RH TURN ON MID FINAL TO 13 L. IF THE WIND IS GENERALLY FROM THE SOUTHEAST, RWY 13 L/R ARE USED. MOST INBOUND TRAFFIC USES 31L/31R DUE TO PREVAILING WESTERLIES, AND RWY 22 DUE TO ONSHORE LOCAL SEABREEZE WIND OR TRAFFIC CONGESTION. ALOT HAS TO DO WITH LGA'S PATTERN.
