Kclt & Lufthansa

WNBC CH. 36 is reporting that Charlotte Chamber of Commerce officials are going to meet with Lufthansa officials in the coming month to discuss Lufthansa starting service to the Queen City. From my numerous posts in this forum, I'm all for seeing Lufthansa here in Charlotte. My question is this....

Will the US & LH agreement be similar to the UA agreement where US makes no money if their passenger flies on a codeshare flight? If this is the case, US wouldn't want to compete on the CLT - FRA route with LH would they? I was thinking that LH could start a CLT - MUC route and they could push for all of BMW's business.

Also, I don't know what loads are like out of ATL, but would it be possible that LH would discontinue ATL service and route passengers thru CLT? Only problem is US Airways needs to find a spare 330 to fly the CLT - FRA route if the above scenerio would happen.

Lufthansa actually used to serve Charlotte during the early 90's.

LH used to fly a 747 from DFW(or was it IAH?) to FRA stopping in CLT. I think it flew twice-weekly.

Lets say for a second the Chamber pulls this off. What type of equipment would LH use? 767, 332, ? Would there be enough traffic for daily service?

There are rumors on another forum that LH is looking at another US city to start MUC service from. Cities mentioned there are CLT, MCO, and PIT.

i highly doubt they´d give up ATL services just because of US´s hub so close. i believe ATL has some healthy O&D market.

i´ve heard the same rumors, and i´d be surprised if there wasn´t additional or new services to CLT and PIT, i´d say most probably from LH since US seems to suffer from lack of longhaul aircraft, and again, most probably from MUC.

and about MCO, i´d love to see any information on how the Thomas Cook operated flights from FRA to MCO have turned out. those were codeshared with LH and i´m sure they will be reviewed carefully to assess if MCO might be a viable future destination.
the UK carriers seem to run its ops to MCO rather profitably although its predominantly a leisure market. but with LH´s two-class product being introduced in a much broader way in the coming months, who knows...
