Northwest MEM Ops

Prehaps someone who is w/ or knows more about NW than I do could help me.

For the last few months MEM flights have seen a downsize in equipment types on many routes. I know this was in order to curb financial losses. However, considering demand from some of the regional cities that see MEM service, I would like to to if there are plans to upgrade equipment types in the next few months. A lot of markets could use more seats, espcially ones whose only NW service is through MEM; So I ask if there are any plans to switch to larger ARJ and DC9 types on some of these flights? Also are there recently dropped stations ie: GTR, that the airline plans to bring back on line?

Answers from anyone who knows would be apprciated!

Don't plan on MEM getting bigger, they are actually going to be a "regional" hub around September, the rumor is that NWA is only going to have 16 gates and the rest will be ARJ and CRJ service...

DTW is seeing serious cuts as well... on the Fall/Winter schedule, there's only four flights to STL (only three were scheduled until AA's announcement), five to LAX, two to SFO, three to FLL, etc. Service to LAS and MCO, including multiple B753 flights, was restored however. For some reason, MSP remains immune from the serious cuts...

MSP has no competition that is as serious as DTW and MEM. DTW has both Spirit, America West, and Southwest. MEM has both America West and AirTran. MSP has America West and limited Sun Country service. So MSP is a true Fortress hub.

MEM is transitioning into a regional hub (a la CLE for CO) for NW. Like I’ve posted many times before, a mixture of regional jets & A319 will replace NW’s fleet of DC-9 – and MEM is proof of that. I’ve included the departure count for NW’s MEM Fall/Winter service (schedules were updated yesterday – should be fairly finalized) below; the numbers in parentheses is last year’s count so you can compare. No cut backs in service – just a decrease in equipment size.

(weekdays only… service decreases on Saturday/Sunday)

Man, this fall/winter schedule is starting to sound ugly. I'll argee with you IP, that there have been some serious cuts up at DTW too. However, as we all know, NW's schedule varies greatly month-to-month, and who knows what they will restore or cut by the time that schedule takes affect.
