Tue Jul 22, 2003 1:54 am

Ok...I need some help...

I am flying to Texas and I need to know where I can get the best deals...

I know about Expedia...and Obitz...but does anyone know of any other good places or CONTACTS where I can get the best deal?

I just got a credit card...so I will have fun booking trips I can't afford...LOL. :P

It all depends on where you go. Most of the major cities in Texas are served by Southwest, which will most likely have the lowest fares. But it also depends on where you are coming from as well. Maybe if you supplied "origin and destination" information we could help you out.

Try www.Southwest.com. If your profile is correct (nice photo's BTW), and you are in NYC, you can book ISP-AUS.

How flexible can you be? Flights in midweek are usually cheaper than something leaving and returning on a weekend. Plus, how far in advance are you looking at?

Advice to people offering help: NEVER tell a New Yorker to take a flight out of ISP. Do you know how difficult it is to get out there?

Cabs are a million dollars, Long Island Railroad isn't the greatest service, and there's no other public transportation. I don't even think they offer long-term parking there, so driving for a flight is also out of the question.

I have friends from Cali that come to NYC on Southwest through ISP. The money they save on tickets ends up just going to a cab anyway. It's a waste.

Delta or AA will be the best bets. But look into Continental also.

I suppose the reason I'd suggest ISP is that if you are buying something like an airline ticket, the "hassles" of getting to ISP could be outweighed by any change in plans...the type tickets this person is looking for is going to be loaded with restrictions, change fees, and penalties. At least on Southwest, should their plans change, she wouldn't get to experience paying on her credit card for something she never got....

FWIW, it doesn't look like she's going to find anything better than $381 - available on UAL/NWA/AA/CO and DL.

I think CO also flies nonstop from EWR, to AUS. Though EWR also is a pain in the ass to get from here in Queens.
