JetBlue And Song

Wed Jul 23, 2003 12:08 am

This ought to be an interesting competition. JetBlue has modern A320's with Pay TV's on board while Song is flying older 757's (presumably) that cost much less. Did Song update their 757's with new IFE?

I got a kick out of this... One of JetBlue's newest A320-232's (N558JB) is named "Song Sung Blue."

They are adding the inflight entertainment and it should be up late 2003 is what I have read. Not on all planes until 2004.

Many of the Song 757s are actually some of more recent Delta 757-200s they took delivery on, so they are only a few years older than the oldest a/c in JetBlue's fleet, if not around the same age. JetBlue's first A320 was delivered 6/21/00. The IFE for Song will be rolled out sometime in October (I guess the current a/c will be retrofitted ASAP), with full fleet coverage by early 2004.

Here's a most recent list of Song a/c (including the original DL delivery dates):

N6701 (delivered to Delta 10/7/99)
N6706Q (delivered to Delta 5/3/00)
N6707A (delivered to Delta 5/31/00)
N6716C (delivered to Delta 3/9/01)
N67171 (delivered to Delta 4/12/01)
N6703D (delivered to Delta 1/21/00)
N6713Y (delivered to Delta 10/31/00)
N6715C (delivered to Delta 2/14/01)
N6714Q (delivered to Delta 12/19/00)
N6708D (delivered to Delta 7/20/00)

http://www.airliners.net/discussions/trip_reports/read.main/33512/ -Here is a link to a recent trip report of a trip I took FLL-JFK-FLL on both Song and jetBlue for purposes of comparison...ironically, on the jetBlue flight I ended up being on N558JB....Song Sung Blue...on the way back...really ironic...

I have also been on N558JB on the JFK-FLL route as well, but Greg knows that  Smile We had the same plane on the same flight on different days... but thats irrelevant

While I really dont have anything to add, I wanted to point out that jetBlue's tv service is free. Just to avoid any confusion with the term "Pay TV" mentioned above.
Originally, jetBlue was going to charge $5 for the use, but the service became free shortly before ops began. Hence, the credit card swipers.
