Longest Routes For A320 Family Aircraft?

Wed Jul 23, 2003 2:34 am

What is the longest regularly scheduled, non-charter route for the A319, A320, and A321? US Airways has operated the A319 and A321 on PHL-SFO(2,191nm) and Jetblue operates the A320 on JFK-OAK(2,238nm). Can anybody come up with A320 routes that are longer than these?

JetBlue's JFK- West Coast routes (especially OAK) have to be some of the longest as they are really at the limits of the A320's range.

But the A319 has a slightly further range. On my honeymoon, I flew BDL (Hartford) - SFO on a Untied A319. Obviously that is a few miles more than JFK-OAK, but not many.

Were there any BOS-SFO routes or anything like that with an A319?
None shall pass!!!!

I believe that one of the longest regularly scheduled routes for an A320 Family plane is a regular flight from a Detroit area airport to Sttutgart flown by a A319CJ owned by the DaimlerChrysler Corporation.

Amadeus.net says LH FRA-ALA is an A310, but if it is an A320 it's a contender.

I think the last time this was discussed nobody beat LHR-THR. (Except for those Privatair or whoever flights which are sort of a separate category.)

AC operates their A319 YYZ-GND
US operates their A319 PHL-GND

all over 4.5 hours.

Both are turnaround flights and refuel in GND.

The longest are two regularly scheduled charter flights, one from Lisbon to Sao Tome (SSG) and another from Vilnius to Tenerife. I may have the city pairs wrong but I have the general regions correct. Both are around 3000+ miles.

UA- these are also long A320 routes
ORD-SJU (5:20- 2,072 miles)

Yes, Chepos ! TAM started flying BSB-MAO-MIA with A332s and later switched the gauge to A320s until the route was discontinued.

Among the longest, you have a TACA-Peru flight GRU-LIM-CCS daily with A319s, and TAM's nonstop GRU-NAT with A320s.

At one time there was also a VARIG/ECUATORIANA/LACSA A320 flight from GRU to San Jose C.R. via Quito.

Qatar are planning (don't know if they've started yet) to use their 319LR from Doha to Moscow as a seed service, hoping to build up pax so they can use a 330.

The ranges of the 737NG and the A320 family aircraft I believe are nearly identical. I think they have the same cruise speed as well.

I think one of the longest routes could be San Jose, CR to Los Angeles in a Taca A-319, that route is more than six hour flight.

I cannot belive no one is stating distance for this trips...

So I am writing all routes included in this thread with their distances. As you can see, the longest scheduled flight with a A320 (family) is: DUS-ORD (6.807km). Yeah. I know, it is a special flight... The second longest without doubt would be: FRA-ALA (5.106km)

DUS-ORD (6.807KM)
FRA-ALA (5.106KM)
MIA-YVR (4.507KM)
LHR-THR (4.424KM)
SJO-LAX (4.380KM)
MBJ-LAX (4.358KM)
LIS-SSG (4.299KM)
MEX-LIM (4.231KM)
BDL-SFO (4.224KM)
LHR-BAK (4.012KM)
MEX-YVR (3.941KM)
YYZ-GDN (3.920KM)
MAO-MIA (3.865KM)
SHA-SIN (3.775KM)
ORD-AUA (3.699KM)
GRU-LIM (3.477KM)

Dear Pzurita1,

How did you calculate the distances? You're right: all the examples that have been given are of little use if no distances are stated. I'd appreciate a reply if at all possible,

Oscar
