NW To The West Coast?

Wed Jul 23, 2003 9:11 am

Hi,

This fall I may be traveling to SFO and am considering taking NW. I've never flown NW before, and wondered what the experience would be like. It looks like I'd be going through MSP (from PIT), DC-9 on PIT-MSP and 757-200 on MSP-SFO.

I know no meals are served and there's no IFE, but is anything served on MSP-SFO, like a snack box or is it drink service only? I know the DC-9's have the new 717-style interiors, but how are the 757's? DL through CVG is the same price, but NW's times are better. (DL would be an FRJ on PIT-CVG and 738 on CVG-SFO.)

Is NW the way to go? Thanks in advance.

if you can find a way to connect through dtw instead of msp it might be worth it. nwa's new world gateway in detroit is awesome and convenient. msp is ok. nwa's dc-9s are dated and frankly, i find them uncomfortable and loud. i'd rather fly on smaller technology from the 90's (i.e., the frj), then a dc-9 circa 1968. one nice thing about traveling through msp is that it is like taking two short-medium legs versus a longer leg from the east coast. that might break it up nicely. why not take pit-sfo on usairways, or do they not offer it?

DTW would be nice, but they're only displaying MSP flights. I guess I'll have to look some more.

As for US Airways, they're a lot more expensive right now. DL and NW are the least expensive. Plus, with all the noise surrounding US Airways and PIT right now, who knows if US Airways will even still be here by then.

FYI, there may not be any IFE but NW does still serve meals on flights to California.
At Eastern, we earn our wings every day!

For me the DC-9 flight alone would be worth it - grab one before they're gone!  Smile

I just wanted to let you know not to worry about US Airways presence at PIT, at least for the next 8 months and most likely longer. Even if they decide to leave (which I suspect they won't) it won't be until mid to late 2004 at the earliest.

NW absolutely serves meals on its flights to SFO -- and it's just as much/more food than what you'd get on the competition...
