Photo Proof: Sars Over

Fri Jul 25, 2003 6:51 am

Not going into details of SARS and its impact, but it's good to see that air traffic to Asia is (almost) back to normal.

Most these airlines had significantly reduced their flight to FRA and are now back to the old schedule.

Due to poor loads to Frankfurt Singapore Airlines flight SQ326/325 will be replaced with the B777-200ER from 1 September.

With 12 people hospitalized in Hong Kong today with Sars like symptoms, I hope that you turn out to be right.

Proof?
Those planes could very likely be empty.

If SQ is still discounting over 40% in biz class for corporate clients....you can bet that it hasn't recovered. They are far too keen fiscally to let go of that revenue.

I imagine CX isn't much better.

Yes, where is KROC?

Most probably in bed or in non aviation, since he doesn't visit civil aviation (not interesting enough for him  Big grin).

The 18 people were tested negative for SARS, whew, that was close. But more tests will have to be conducted to completely rule out SARS. I would've thought by now one quick standard test would've been developed. Oh well..

Hey I just wanted to be optimistic and cheerful. But maybe YOU don't work for an airline, so YOU are not facing layoffs or working short like me and so many others (let alone those who are personally affected by SARS)
Such negativism.

The airline business has always been cyclical. Any success has always been tempered with RIF's and furloughs.
Maybe YOU should have thought of that first and chose something else.
Such entitlement.

Maybe for some it's more than "just a job" and some parts of the world don't like the "hire and fire" mentality.

Greg - what a crap.

I guess you've never been fired from a job which is your passion at the same time?  Insane

Or doesn't your 'interest' in aviation reach far enough to understand what a job in the aviation world can mean for an aviation fan?

Konstantin, about a cruel world, if you have to live in cowboy bush country, maybe you get used so much to wars, fights and misery that losing your job only becomes a minor problem in comparision with the rest  Big grin

Greg - what a crap.

What are you talking about!? I hate to bring you out of the fantasy world, but he's right. Just because the job is your passion it doesn't mean that it's guarunteed. Layoffs happen. Pilots are laid off...do you think they just took the job soley for money!? Greg is right.

I am disappointed by the responses here.

K-man, your photos definitely are proof of a rebound in traffic back to FRA (even though we cannot know how many passengers might be on board those planes).

Working for an airline myself, it is good to know that the effects of SARS have diminished to allow a rebound of flights to/from Asia.
Bonjour Chef!

Chris and Frederic, thanks for sharing my views. If that is one indicator that flights are better booked again, departures to Asia don't climb like a rocket into the sky anymore like they used to do a couple of months ago (OK, one factor is also the higher temperature now in summer).

I'm with Konstantin here! I myself do not suffer from the current situation in aviation as I have not made it that far yet (not because I'm dumb but I first have to serve Germany in the Army...) but I know how it feels to be in such a situation. I was at Stockholm-Arlanda for some spotting and also to fly from there. It is visible that times are tough and movements a very limited. And if my sister wasn't off work anyways because she got a baby she for sure would have to leave SAS next month when they will reduce their working force by a major portion. For some people that might just be life but I guess that even those people have a soul and maybe even emotions. So maybe it is time now to look out for a better future in aviation.

I have once heard a statement saying that in a time of economical growth people tend to totally ignore any kind of bad news while in a time of a recession any kind of good news is stabbed down and ignored.

Though Greg may be right, I don't see a need to go poo poo someone else's party. From my experience, people like that perhaps have nothing better to do than to drag people down because they themselves have gone through the dark times, or is in a dark time.

Sure, there is reality, but then, there's reality. There should always be room for optimism. If everyone was a realist in this world, I think we would still be in the dark ages. Fatalism isn't that far behind.

Think about it.
