Sat Jul 26, 2003 4:05 pm depends on time of day, specific flight & some luck with the ground crew. The answer can vary as much as the weather.

In terms of minimal walking perhaps, the YYZ T3 gates that CP used for YUL/YOW shuttle flights were very close to cityside. I could be in my car within 5 minutes from deplaning.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

I think Hamilton would be up there, or any other small, quiet airport, but of course the differences between one small airport and another do not vary considerably. It is more interesting to see how quick it is at large international airports, comparing Toronto, to Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary mainly.

Efficiency at airports is highly desired. I just landed in Lisbon, Portugal yesterday. The aircraft landed half hour early, (way to go Transat!), but I did not leave the airport until an hour and a half later! My parents by comparison were out within 20 minutes or so. T3 at YYZ is horrible from certain international gates, with very long walks. I will see how it is when I return.

Of the major airports I'd say Calgary.
When you arrive you go to the terminal 3rd level that takes you to the restaurant overlooking the center field and take the walking bridge (indoors) to the parkade (level 4) attached to the terminal, and within minutes you are downtown or on the major highway 1 (East West) or 2 (North South).
For International arrivals you may have a holdup in customs but that is out of the hands of the airport authority.
For those not familiar with Calgary, the airport is located within the city boundaries.

Another consideration is whether one is entering or exiting the country, and therefore, going through Canadian customs. Entering, the most efficient operation I've run into is in Calgary (YYC). Lines seem to move quickly, even through the customs area.

Exiting the country is another matter, at least to the US. My last visit to Vancouver (YVR) in June, the line through the duty-free store, through the airport improvement-fee stand, through US customs, and through security was 90 minutes. Many standing in line missed their planes. By contrast, I've exited through Calgary a half hour.

To give a straight answer to the original question, for me Charlottetown (YYG) is the fastest -- deplane to airport exit in five minutes. It's a provincial capital of 40,000 with only two airlines, JetsGo and Air Canada
