I happen to like the current UA
livery, even if it is a little boring (I prefer "conservative"). Perhaps it needs a tweak or two, but I like it more than the 70s /80s old scheme. Also, please do not call the current scheme "new" as it has been around since the early 90s. Hardly new... many liveries have come and gone since then!
While having one aircraft type in your fleet is unbeatable from an economic point of view (JetBlue, Southwest, etc.), it is not the most interesting. I agree with one of the other people that AA
has too many MD
-80s/90s to be very interesting. And Delta's MD
-11 fleet is too thin to really be a big factor.
My vote to best fleet, solely from a spotter's point of view, is UA
. Plenty of fleet types and equipment. Runner up is NW
. Not too many chances to see tri-jets in action, but NW
is still committed to the DC-10 program (for now).
But as we all know, a varied fleet type may make the spotter happy, but it doesn't do much for the accountants. This is why increasingly smaller fleet types will be the norm, even with the remaining legacy "giant" carriers.
JetBlue is getting a second aircraft type, the Embraer 190, in 2005. Should be interesting to see that.
