Sun Jul 27, 2003 6:05 pm

I read some where thet the A306 shares the tail ahd horizintal stabilizers as welll as the rear quarter of the fyselage with the A310, is that so? how come the A306 tail looks shorter than the A310's?

The A310 and A300 are almost identical planes, same fuselage, same tail/stabilisers/rudders, same cockpit layout, same avionics etc etc. The only reason the A300-600 tails looks shorter is because it has a longer fuselage than the 310, and therefore the same tail looks rather large on the A310.

Airmale, I remember reading something about the similarities as well.

If I recall correctly, the rear portion of the fuselage (close to the tail) is the same for both the 310 and the 300-600. Both the 310 and the 300-600 differ from the A-300B in this respect. Again, my memory is hazy, but I believe the newer design had more of an upsweep where the fuselage tapers, although I don't remember the purpose behind it.

When Airbus developed the A310, changes in the rear fuselage were incorporated. Airbus discovered that as a result, if they applied this newer desgn to the A300 series, more cargo carrying capability was possible. I believe that thy have utilized this design to every A300, 330 and 340 ever since.
