I just looked at the rates for that flight, ATA has pretty good rates. almost 200$ cheaper than CO, they may give CO a good run for their money.

I flew ATA for the first time earlier this month. I didn't really like them - seemed like a really cheap operation. However, I am still very excited to see them expanding so much! In this economy, I am happy when any airlines grow and expand! And with those fares, no doubt they will kick Continental's a**!!

This is going to be interesting, and I wonder if CO is going to match the low ATA fares on the EWR-SFO route.......CO enjoys it dominant position at EWR and would very much prefer to keep a low-cost carrier like ATA out of EWR, EWR-Midway with onward connections is one thing, but a key transcon route such as EWR-SFO is another. JetBlue also competes on trascon flights out of the New York area via JFK airport, but its flights operate into Long Beach, Oakland and Ontario (is JetBlue still operating into Ontario?) which distinguishes their services a bit from the traditional airlines.

Is ATA setting up a mini-hub or focus city at SFO? I am trying to understand why ATA selected a route such as EWR-SFO as most of their operations are cetnered around Midway and Indianapolis.

There has been rumors thrown around on this board about plans for SFO and ATA/TZ? Nothing has been confirmed as of yet. Like I said others have mentioned plans for SFO. Time will tell.

The absolute highest ATA base fare on the route will be $598 RT for a fully-refundable ticket. Try getting that from CO or UA.

CO and UA will match those fares dollar for dollar. They have no choice. Glad to see them expanding. Hopefully the will get better utilization out of those airplanes, crew members, gates, etc. and bring the casm down some more.

Continental is still quoting a fare of 2469.50 USD. UAL is 2469.50 USD. As of yet, no carrier has matched our full fare. It would certainly up the ante if someone does.

CO and UA will match the TZ fares, unfortunately. Their pattern has been to rip-off customers until a discounter comes in to keep them honest. Look for their fares to drop the very day that TZ begins EWR-SFO service.

In the CHI-PIT market, UA matched FL fares until AirTran dropped that service, then UA raised them, and then lowered them again when TZ began MDW-PIT service earlier this year. The same thing happened with FL and their MDW-ICT service; as soon as they pulled out, UA jacked up the rates on their ORD-ICT runs.

Today's news is great for folks in the New York and San Francisco metropolitan areas. Well done ATA and keep up the growth.

Using Orbitz I did a price comparison from 11/26/03 from ERW to SFO returning on 11/30/03. The prices are as follows: ATA $302, UAL $1019 and CO $1019. A difference of $700.00 will fill those seats for sure. that is during the busy Thanksgiving holiday too!!

It's not a rip-off if customers are willing to pay it, y'know.  Insane

I'm glad to see ATA go at EWR. If they play it right they can do at EWR what jetBlue has done at JFK!

Perhaps we'll see EWR-LAX next...  Smile

EA CO AS,

Is AS running a sale? I noticed the following fares EWR-SFO that are ~$10 less expensive than the rest of the fares on the route.

GE14N, TE14NT
