British Airways PTVs

Mon Dec 20, 1999 6:51 am

Will British Airways ever install coach PTVs on their 744s? Have they got them on all their 777s?
Sometimes I go about in pity for myself and all the while a great wind carries me across the sky.

British Airways will be doing that to there 744 when they redo the interior I believe. Also about your user name the new virgin look is terrible! The interior looks like it is from a 70's hippy van and the livery makes the 744 look small.

Hell are you talking about? Virgin's new livery is one of the most original around.....

Although I wouldn't say Virgins colors are original I think their new colors are really good looking. Much more imaginative than the all white fuselage that most operators seem to be going to.

Original in the sense that it is not the standard boring all-white fuselage we see too much of these days. It is NOT ugly either. Who has a beautiful livery then?

Nothing Better Than BA's Artworks!

Tue Dec 21, 1999 2:23 am

The most beautiful livery for all times is BA's World Image livery which still is very present. Combining magnificent planes and worldwide, cosmopolitan art is just unbeatable.
But Virgins' silver machines are bautiful too, although they all have the same tails...

Ugly liveries? American Airlines, Air India, Olympic Airways,..., and ALL those similar looking stinky white fuselages plus little little colored logos (if they could, they would fly their planes without any marks) on the tail, as many airlines fly today: Lufthansa (look as boring as government planes), Air France, Sabena, Swissair, Qantas, and many more.
More ideas like BA's or Virgin's needed in that industry!

This 744 has the new World Traveller cabin fitted. The PTV'S in First are pretty small now compared to those on other carriers. Emirates' Business class PTV's are much larger, and a selection of 50 videos are available to Business and First on Emirates' 777/A330 routes. Has anyone seen VS's new on-board bar? Check it out on their website.

I do agree with you that a lot of carriers have an all white fuselage. But many airlines have not had the white for many years. Like Korean,American, USAir, Northwest, KLM, and United. So it is really not that original. The airplane looks dated it looks like it comes from the 70's. The tail looked like I kid colored it and went over the lines and tidied it up. The Virgin sign does not fit on an aircraft tail. They should just have the V and Virgin written along the side. The call themselves the flag carrier but only have the flag covering the lady and the winglets. Just another thing about Virgin Richard Branson wanted to have bi-weekly flights to the Falklands in a 747. This was after they one the war. I also do not believe you can call yourself the flag carrier of the UK till you have flown the royal family and they have not been on Virgin and use BA. But I am sorry to say that there are lots of us that think VS livery is horrible!

About the good liveries. United lokos good, US Air, BA is the best, Air 200, BM, UK, KLM, and the new Delta.

Maybe that's the entire point of the livery--the "dated", 70s appearance. Hmm.....

Not too bright huh?

On a flight to Kuala Lumpur in October, I was on-board a British Airways Boeing 747-400 with PTVs in World Traveller. The whole system was in dual-language (English and Chinese) with an AirShow channel now available to passengers.

Good Liveries:

Delta (new)
United (new)
Continental (new)
British Airways (Union Flag and World Images)
Virgin Atlantic (new)
Cathay Pacific

Bad Livieries:
Delta (old)
Virgin Express (new)
Canadian (old)
United (old)
Aer Lingus (old)

These are just my opinions. What I think is that if an airline realizes it needs a new livery because their old one is too ugly, they will get a new one.
