Advice On Around The World Charters-Anyone?

Sat Aug 02, 2003 10:40 am

This was discussed in a thread over a year ago but I'm looking for updated information. Ala the 747-SP trans-global charters flown in the late 70's and 80's, there was a 747-400 which made a special around the world flight over the poles about 2 years ago. Seats were available for between $7500. and $15,000. USD; the plane was quite full. This is something I now wished I done when I'd learned of it. I'm just wondering if anyone might know about another such flight, using any type of high-capacity, long range, transport. This specific flight was not of the ultra-luxury sort mentioned in that thread, which flew way fewer people for far more cost per person. I've done a broad based search on the Net but haven't located anything of exactly this nature. I now think I'd pony up the funds to do this if there were something within that price range. Anyone know? Thanks!  Smile

I remember reading that Air2000, a UK airline, often fly round the world charters in a specially configured 752, on behalf of a tour operator.
next flights : BD LHR-TXL J, FR SXF-STN Y, SN BRU-LHR Y, MA LHR-BUD Y, BA BUD-LHR J, BA LCY-SNN-JFK J, BA JFK-LHR J, BA

German "Condor" had orders from Hapag Lloyd: they chartered a 727 for round-the-world-flights, in F-configuration.

Try checking Travcoa:
http://www.travcoa.com

Travcoa is offering a World Tour in 2004 - a twenty two day trip.

Also, try the airline meal web page under ATA - you'll see how the L1011 is transformed.

AvObserver,

as much as I know the "over both poles" flight two years ago got cancelled because of the security concerns after 9/11. However, Concorde Spirit Tours (the company which initially planned the "over both poles" flight and which also operated several concorde around the world flights) has set a new date for an over both poles flight. The flight will take place from December 15-17, 2003. The flight will be operated by a NWA Boeing 747-400 and the attempt is to fly over both poles in 51 hours and 08 minutes. Prices are from 7,495 USD for a Premium Coach seat.

Visit the over both poles website for more information.

air2000 offer an extensive range of exclusive charters, mainly through TCS Expeditions. However prices are very high, between $29000 and $39000 per person.

I would have thought the most cost-effective way to see the world now would be to purchase one of the around-the-world fares available from one of the major airline alliances. The availability of this type of fare which can be used on several airlines is probably one of the reasons there are no special charters for the economy class market...
