A Near Crash At FAO.

Sun Aug 03, 2003 2:10 pm

Just saw the news in portuguese media saying that a TU154 from Airlines 400 almost crashed at FAO airport on take-off. According to the news due to the high temperatures at FAO the Tupolev used all the runway and actually stroke some trees that came to the road nearby the airport. The plane left at 23:00 ( 11:00 pm ) to Moscow and FAO controllers sent that information to Moscow so they could advice the crew of the TU154 that they actually touched the trees on take-off. Also the FAO tower didn't received any abnormal communication from the russian plane. Witness say that after the plane took off branches from the trees started to fall down the road and they saw the plane just barely keeping the altitude for a while.

Just to clear out, the photo above is just of the airline involved, not this particular airplane.

I wonder how the control tower noticed the aircraft clipping trees when it's 11pm and pitch black outside... There was no communication about this from the aircraft. Did the eye witnesses contact FAO tower and told them?
