26 Landings In 24 Hours?

Tue Dec 21, 1999 3:41 am

From an article in Flight International (2 Sept 1965) on AA's upcoming BAC 1-11's:
"AA will operate the One-Eleven very much as a short-hauler-- one planned route involves 26 landings in 24hr."
AA then flew routes like JFK-BDL and LGA-SYR, but still: egad!

By the way, how did the 1-11 get that name?

I have pulled of 8 landings in one hour if I flew for 24 I would have made 192.

I'll bet Aloha and Hawaiian pilots do that all the time, as inter-island flights are so short!

Just looking at the OAG, it seems an inter-island jet is unlikely to get much more than a landing per hour, during the day; it sits overnight for at least 5 1/2 hours.
